Hirayama Family and Exploration of Asteroids
* Abstract
 

 

One century has passed since Kiyotsugu Hirayama put forward a concept of asteroidal family.
He considered that family members sharing similar orbital elements had been formed by explosions of larger bodies. Over the  past one hundred years since then, we have made steady progress in exploring the primordial bodies in the solar system, which includes recent Hayabusa2’s rendezvous with Ryugu. Looking back over a century based on Hirayama’s theory, I will introduce how our knowledge have changed and how we should promote research in the related field.
