Neutrinos Oscillations: Past, Present and Future
* Abstract
 

 

According to the standard model of particle physics, neutrinos are massless like photons.
In 1957 Bruno Pontecorvo, however, suggested that neutrinos are massive and therefore they oscillate.
The discovery of neutrino oscillation is achieved by Super-Kamiokande using atmospheric neutrinos in 1998,
SNO using solar neutrinos in 2001, and Daya Bay and RENO using reactor neutrinos in 2012.
Thanks to the relatively large value of the smallest neutrino mixing angle, theta_13, discovered by Daya Bay and RENO, neutrino field enters a golden era to explore very challenging but important questions, for example, why matter dominates our universe.
In this talk I present history of neutrino oscillations and introduce a future Korean Neutrino Observatory (KNO) in Korea.
