* Title
Modeling stellar feedback in galaxy formation simulations: where do we stand?
* Abstract

Reproducing the low global star formation efficiency is a key challenge in galaxy formation theory. Previous cosmological simulations circumvented this issue by incorporating a phenomenological feedback model that is designed to drive strong outflows. However, we are now entering a new era in which the interplay between stellar feedback and the gas collapse in an ISM can be modeled in more detail without resorting to the phenomenological prescriptions. Recently, some cosmological zoom-in simulations of galaxy formation argue that observed galactic properties can be reproduced by their strong radiation feedback in conjunction with a dedicated star formation recipe, but it is still under debate what type of mechanism is primarily responsible for the suppression of star formation in galaxies. In this talk, I will discuss our recent developments in stellar feedback models in galaxy formation simulations, focusing on supernova explosions and radiation feedback. In particular, I will introduce a new feedback mechanism due to resonantly scattered Lyman alpha photons, and show that it can play a significant role at regulating star formation in metal-poor galaxies at high redshift. The talk will also discuss whether or not locally strong radiation pressure can boost gaseous outflow rates in small galaxies.
