Astronomy Colloquium (2019 Fall Semester)

* Date
Nov. 21
* Speaker
Dr. Nobuyuki Sakai (KASI)
* Title
Mapping the Milky Way with Astrometry
* Abstract

Astrometry is the only way to derive 6D-phase information of the astronomical objects. The unique capability allows us to tackle a wide variety of astronomical mysteries.

Firstly, I will introduce history and basics of astrometry. Secondly, I will overview astrometric projects in the world. Thirdly, I will highlight recent astrometric results on the Galactic structure (Reid et al. 2019; Miyachi et al. 2019), Cloud-Cloud Collision (Koide et al. 2019), the Galactic shock (Sakai et al. 2019a) and the Galactic warp (Sakai et al. 2019b).

Lastly, I will introduce astrometric research in Korea as well as future astrometric projects and sciences in 2020s and 30s.
