– When a student of a master’s or combined master’s and Ph.D. course intends to complete a bachelor’s course, he/she may obtain credits within 3 credits per semester with the approval of the dean or the head of the department, and may be included in the course completion credits within 6 credits.
- – For acquired credits in excess of the standard for completion of the master’s program, credits for subjects with 3.0 or higher may be recognized as Ph.D. program completion credits up to 12 credits after the Graduate Review Committee. Paper research credits can also be recognized as Ph.D. credits.

※ In the case of an combined master’s and Ph.D. course, if you meet the requirements for completing a master’s degree (including a master’s thesis), you can submit a “giving up” and obtain a master’s degree.
■ Qualification test for submission of thesis

– For master’s course, who has registered for at least 2 semesters and obtained at least 9 credits
– For Ph.D. course, who has registered for at least 2 semesters and obtained at least 9 credits
– For combined master’s and Ph.D. course, who has registered for at least 4 semesters and obtained at least 36 credits (2011. 12. 09.)

※ English subjects have been replaced by the qualification recognition system since the first semester of 2006, so those who have not received the qualification process must take TEPS and TOEFL before submitting their thesis documents (early April in the first semester and early October in the second semester) and acquire more than the reference score.
▷ Major examination subject
Stellar Atmosphere, Stellar Structure and Evolution,Solar Physics, Interstellar Matter, Astrophysics, Extragalactic Astronomy and Cosmology, Techniques in Astronomical Observation
– 4 common questions and 6 optional questions are asked, and all common questions and 2 out of 6 optional quesions are to be solved
– Field of common questions: Observation, Extragalactic Astronomy and Cosmology, Interstellar matter+Astrophysics, Stellar Atmosphere, Inner Structure of Stellar, Solar
■ Review of thesis
▷ Thesis proposal presentation
– He/She must give a presentation of the thesis proposal before the thesis review
– Conducted within a month after the start of each semester( ※ It does not matter whether the thesis submission qualification test is passed or not )
– In the case of Ph.D. course, thesis presentation cannot be made during the semester when the proposal presentation is already made.
▷ Application for thesis examination and payment of the examination fees
– Application period : Mid-April (scheduled to graduate in August) or Mid-October (scheduled to graduate in February)
– Documents for submission : Master(Application for the final defense of the thesis), Ph.D.(Thesis review request, Advisor recommendation, Resume)
– Payment of examination: Master 100,000 won, Ph.D. 300,000 won
– Graduate school graduates must register as graduate researchers within the semester’s registration period
▷ Composition of thesis review committee
– Master : Consists of 3 referees only in the school
– Ph.D. : Consists of 5 referees including 1 external referee
▷ Examination of the thesis
– Period: The examination is completed by the end of June (for expected graduation in August) or the end of December (for expected graduation in February)
– Master : Public presentation once
– Ph.D. : Public presentation once, Conducted at least 3 times, including preliminary/final defense
▷ Thesis for preservation and online submission
– Submission in early August (for expected graduate in August) or early February (for expected graduate in February)
– Number of submissions: 4 copies of Ph.D., 3 copies of master (Library of astronomy department: 3 copies of Ph.D. , 2 copies of master)
– One of the submitted papers must be an original copy with the “Agreement on the Original Contents Provision” form on the back of the seal (stamp or signature) of all referees, and the remaining papers must be copied after the approval sheet is sealed
