Over the past several decades, the presence of supermassive black holes in the center of most galaxies and the mutual growth of the black hole-host galaxy system have thoroughly been studied. Starting from the black hole scale and zooming out into the accretion disk, obscuring geometry, host galaxy and galaxy environments, I will review the recent progress in this field from mainly an infrared observational point of view, yet deliver the conversation between theory and observations. I will add my own contributions among the advances in the field, overview what the upcoming generation of telescopes will teach us, and describe my plans for the future.
